How to play Wordbrew: a complete beginner’s guide

Everything you need to know about Wordbrew: the colours, the three daily words, points, stamps, hints and streaks.

Wordbrew is Letterbrew’s daily five-letter word puzzle. Every day there are three hidden words (one easy, one medium and one hard) and everyone gets the same three. You have six tries to find each one.

Making a guess

Type any real five-letter word, on your keyboard or with the on-screen keys, and press Enter. If the word is not in our dictionary, you will see a "Not in the list" message and the try is not used up, so you can simply try another word.

Reading the tiles

The dot and ring are there so the game works for colour-blind players too. The keyboard also changes colour, so you can see at a glance which letters you have already ruled out.

  • Solid colour with a dot: the letter is in the word and in the right spot.
  • Stripes with a ring: the letter is in the word but in a different spot.
  • Grey: the letter is not in the word at all.

Three words, unlocked in order

The easy word opens first. Once you finish it, either by solving it or by using all six tries, the medium word unlocks, and then the hard one. You can leave and come back at any time; your progress is saved on your device.

Points and stamps

  • Solving in one try earns 60 points, and each extra try costs 10.
  • Medium words add a 10-point bonus, and hard words add 20.
  • You collect a stamp at one, two and three words solved: Warmed up, On a roll and Full brew.

Hints

Stuck? Tap the Hint button to reveal one letter in its correct spot. Each hint costs 15 points, and you can use up to two per word. A solved word is always worth at least 5 points, even with hints.

Streaks and the archive

Finish at least one game a day to keep your streak going. Missed a day? The archive has every past puzzle. Archive games are just for practice, so they don’t change your streak or points.

Sharing your result

When you finish, your receipt shows your coloured grid without the letters, so you can share it without spoiling the answer. You can also send a friend a challenge link with your score and see who wins.
